In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

You have informed us that there are many anchors of all sorts in Plymouth Sound, which if taken up will be not only useful for the Navy at that Port, but be otherwise a benefit by clearing the Ground where the Ships generally ride.
All persons are discouraged in taking them up as the Vice Admiral's deputy there seizes them as they are recovered and pays them for their labour only as he pleases.
We direct you agree with any persons willing to undertake this work that when delivering anchors recovered to the Navy at Plymouth they be allowed the usual salvage of one third part of the value.
Particulars of anchors recovered are to be sent to this Board, with details of weights, and whether they belonged to their Majesties' Ships or other persons.
We send you herewith our Order to the Vice Admiral of Devonshire and his deputies so that do not obstruct these operations.
