In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
        
        You are directed to have the JERSEY victualled to the proportion ordered for her and the other ships going to the West Indies, with all possible dispatch. You are also directed to hire on the best terms, 4 merchant  ships fitting to be in His Majesty's service as men-of-war. As soon as you have hired the ships you are to report what number of men and what number and nature of guns are to be appointed for each of them.
