In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Your letter of 14 April advised us that you had hired two merchant ships to be employed as hospital ships to attend the fleet. The CONCORD, Ralph Crow, Master and the SOCIETY, Henry Collins, Master, are to be manned and victualled as hospital ships were in the last war. They are to be manned with 45 men each, as per the contracts you have made with the owners, and are to be allowed a Captain, Master, two Mates, a Boatswain, Gunner and Carpenter. They are to be furnished with 4 months victuals.
