Document signed by James Southerne, Secretary to the Admiralty, fl. 1690-1694

Two vessels owned by Mr Waters are to fetch soot and coal for the new dockyard at Plymouth. Consequently, orders are being issued to the Commander of the LARK at Plymouth - which is currently on cruising duty between the Scillies and Bristol - to convoy the two vessels to their destinations provided they are ready to sail. Mr Waters is to be informed accordingly and is to be reminded that the PRINCE of ORANGE and the QUAKER Ketch are constantly cruising between Plymouth and the Bristol Channel and could have escorted the ships had they been ready. If the two escorts are still in the vicinty before Mr Waters vessels have reached Milford and Swansea, their Masters are to apply to them for convoy protection.
