In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
In repairing and refitting the First, Second and Third Rate and other ships intended for foreign service next year particular attention is to be paid to ships' bottoms. All Fireships either in port or expected are to be repaired and refitted (except cleaning) with all speed. The Board is to advise on the best way of procuring six extra Fireships for service during the following year whether by converting some of the Navy's ships otherwise unfit for service, or by building some new ones. All hired tenders now in port for repair are to be discharged immediately, with the exception of the four Ketches now at Portsmouth destined for service with the Mediterranean Squadron.
