In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

We have considered your report dated 6 April, concerning the building of the new ships of 80 guns with three decks. We think it fitting that a trial be made and accordingly direct you to have the new third rate ships now building at Portsmouth built with three decks, but to have no more ordnance in number or weight than that established for 80 gun ships. Also, they are to have no forecastle and the waist is not to be raised avove 8 [cane] inches and that she be [housed] in so much as shall be necessary to prevent her being tender.
