In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
We refer this petition to you to examine the matter of fact contained and to report whether the petition comes within the establishment made by their Majesties for Pensions to be given to Officers Superannuated in Their Service at Sea. Petition of Thomas Beare, Boatswain of the DEVONSHIRE - "Sheweth that the petitioner was late Boatswain of the DEVONSHIRE and has been a warrant officer since 1671 and is upwards of 55. By reason of a violent bruise lately received on board the DEVONSHIRE by a fall of the main topmast cap from the main top, he has wholly lost the sight of his left eye and the other is much damaged so that he can hardly see and is disabled for further service. The petitioner humbly prays this honourable Board would be pleased to grant an order that he may partake of their Majesties royal bounty allotted to superannuated boatswains."
