Document signed by William Bridgeman, c.1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698

A letter has been received from the Navy Board indicating some confusion over the paper just sent them concerning men who are alleged to have deserted as no ship has been named; but it is believed that it is either the PRINCESS ANN or the LOYAL MERCHANT. Their Lordships have been informed of and have approved the action taken in paying off the UNITY Hired ship. As to reducing the Complements of the ships bound for the Straits, the West Indies and other foreign voyages, the Board's directions are promised for tomorrow. Orders for the convoy to Virginia have already been sent along with orders for ships going to Jamaica; but as regards ships bound for the Straits it is not intended that their crews should be reduced to the middle Complements. Instructions are given for the Navy Board to write to Captain St.Loe at Chatham asking for the names of Marines who are complaining of not being paid, together with the names of their Officers and the Companies they belong to.
