Document signed by William Bridgeman, c.1646-1699, English civil servant and Secretary to the Admiralty between 1694 and 1698
1. As the Boatswain of the AFRICA, Hired Ship, is to be preferred, a letter is to be written to her owners asking them to recommend a replacement for him.
2. The Master Attendant at Chatham alleges that the ROYAL KATHERINE drove ashore when being moved from her moorings because men aboard the nearby ROYAL WILLIAM refused to make fast a hawser sent across to her. The circumstances surrounding this incident are to be investigated and a report submitted. An extract from a letter of Captain Hoskins, in command of the ROYAL WILLIAM (dated 26th November 1694) is enclosed, together with sworn affidavits from some of his officers.
