In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Rt. Hon. The Lord Berkeley, Admiral of the Blue, has said that our late orders to you directing that no clerk or officer attending Pays or Recalls is to receive pay, other for themselves or warrantable servants, may be of great inconvenience to the service at present in relation to the seamen employed in the prest vessels and tenders. We did in our memorial letter to the Lords of His Majesty's Privy Council, propose that our order may be dispensed with in that particular only and that captains may be permitted to receive pay for such men who happen to be absent, as has been usual where Letters of Attorney have been given. You are therefore directed in pursuance of an order from the Privy Council dated 18 January, to pay respective captains of ships such sums as shall be due for men in the prest vessels and tenders, where Letters of Attorney are given.
