Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

Orders have been sent to the SOLEBAY to convoy the JOHN & MARY and the SOMERLY past the Gunfleet and on to the Nore where the Commander-in-chief has instructions that the first available warship should convey them on to Portsmouth. The Master of the MOUNTAGNE is to be detained in London pending an enquiry into the burning of a French ship taken by her and the ENGLAND Frigate. A replacement Master is to be sent down to the MOUNTAGNE without delay. The DOLPHIN, having arrived at Portsmouth from Ireland, is to be paid before going to sea again.
