Material relating to Shanties (part I) : Long Haul: A short History of Sea Shanties (Palmer, 2013), misc. articles and extracts. Collated by Mr Roy Palmer

Contains lecture notes for a lecture delivered at the NMM on 31 October 2013 on 'The Long Haul: A Short History of Sea Shanties.' With hand written sheet music for 'Down Trinidad' and various copies of articles including extracts from 'The Complaynt of Scotland written in 1548' edited by John Leyden [1801].

There are also 'miscellaneous articles/extracts' which includes photocopies from 'The Seven Seas Shanty Book' collected by John Sampson which contains 42 sea shanties and songs [only a small portion is provided]. There are photocopies of 'The Sailor's Chanties' by James H. Williams from THE INDEPENDENT (New York) 8 July 1909; and 'Sailor Songs and Songs of the Sea' by William Saunders from MUSICAL OPINION, August 1926.Includes several other except copies from journals concerning sea shanties.
