Letters from Albert Murray on HMS ROYAL ADELAIDE and HMS WOLVERINE, 1876-1881.
Letters received by Mrs Emma Murray while her son was serving on HMS ROYAL ADELAIDE at Devonport and then the wooden screw corvette HMS WOLVERINE (1863) on the Australia station, 1876-1881. One of the letters describes a passage from Plymouth to Melbourne on the Watts, Milburn & Co steamship HANKOW (1874) between 19 December 1876 and 5 February 1877. In the later letters Murray discusses visits to the Pacific islands including Fiji and Samoa, and his dissatisfaction with not being able to go home on leave.
