Letter from Benjamin William Hotine on the ETTRICKDALE, 1879.
Letter written by Benjamin William Hotine to his brother and sister as he begun his apprenticeship on the iron ship ETTRICKDALE (1872), owned by J. & A. Roxburgh, Glasgow. The letter is dated 3 April 1879 and was written shortly before the pilot came off the ship in the English Channel. There is also a small newspaper cutting describing the voyage of the ETTRICKDALE from London to Sydney, during which the ship encountered strong gales.
