The story of the circumstances surrounding the sinking on 10 November 1975 of the freighter the SS Edmund Fitzgerald in a snowstorm on Lake Superior, and the loss of all twenty-nine men on board. The book includes evidence obtained from explorations of the wreck between 1976-95, information from contemporary government reports, and dialogue from the ship's radio transmissions.
