Mr. Pepys : an introduction to the Diary together with a sketch of his later life /by J.R. Tanner.

This book gives a brief summary of the contents of Pepys's diaries, arranged by various topics rather than chronologically. Topics include: Pepys's earlier life; his wife, Elizabeth; his home life, including friends and neighbours, food and clothes; his artistic, cultural and scientific pursuits; and his work as Clerk of the Acts and at the Admiralty. There is a chapter on Pepys's personal characteristics, gleaned from Diary entries. There is an assessment of the Diary as a work of literature. The chapter on his later life covers the years 1669, the year the Diary came to an end, until 1703, the year of his death. The book contains a 'biographical summary' or timeline, of Pepys's life and career, and an index.
