Valetta (1883)
A 10x8 negative. A poor quality port very near broadside view, taken from only just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Valetta (1883) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has three yards on each of her fore and main masts, has awnings rigged aft and is flying the blue peter. The deckhouses ahead of her foremast are short and she has a white riband below the upper level of scuttles in her hull. The passenger ferry Cato (1849) is alongside. The stern of a tug is in the left foreground and the clipper bows of two tugs are on the right. Tilbury Fort is in the background. An NMM copy negative of a photographic print from negative number G2110 which was much damaged by damp and has been discarded.
