Studies of frigates and other craft
Medium includes graphite. Inscribed 'J. T. Serres' lower right, in a much later hand (see PAF 5582, similarly inscribed). This may be a teaching demonstraton drawing, comprising a number of faint pencil outlines and three washed-in studies. There are two ships in pencil upper left in port bow view, possibly frigates and two slopps or cutters upper right below a diagram showing points of sailing. Top centre in wash is a cutter rigged craft, (inscribed 'Sloop') close-hauled on the port tack, with the foot of her mainsail raised for visibility above two wash drawings of frigates. There appears to be a faint inscription beginning 'P[rince] of Wales...' to the right of that on the right. [PvdM 7/07]
