Wonder (1856)
A 12x10 negative. A port broadside view of the paddle tug Wonder (1856) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, She is a wooden hulled vessel with a clipper stem, figurehead, spike bowsprit, single mast and twin funnels. A small wooden boat with a tall mast and long bowsprit is on the right. On the left is a steam vessel, possibly a yacht, flying a St Andrew's Cross flag at the ensign staff. Tilbury Fort Watergate is in the background. This image was a copy of negative number G1661. The original glass plate negative was broken and discarded prior to 1960 but an acetate film copy negative was made. The acetate film negative reticulated and was discarded in 2009.
