'The Storm Subsiding' [Cape Colonna]. 'Palemon, wounded and dying....'; illustration to Falconer's 'The Shipwreck' (1811 ed., p.139)
The last of a series of ten drawings, of which the collection holds nine (PAF5913–PAF5921). The printed description of the plate based on it reads: 'View of Cape Colonne [sic]. The scattered remains of the Wreck floating towards the Shore. On the Fore-ground, PALEMON, wounded and dying delivers to his friend ARION, who is supporting him, the portrait of ANNA.' This example, formerly in an oval mount, shows the difference between Pocock's original colouration round the long-protected edges, in contrast with the area long exposed to light. Signed by the artist and dated, lower right. For further details see the first of the series, PAF5913. Exhibited: NMM Pocock exhib. (1975) no. 42.
