Queen dowager Adelaide landing at Gozo
Drawing. Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), the widow of William IV and aunt of Queen Victoria spent much of her later years in the Mediterranean for health reasons. She visited Malta in 1839 and was responsible for starting the project to build the Anglican cathedral at Valletta, after finding the main Protestant place of worship there just a room set aside in the Grand Master's palace.
