The staysail of a small vessel
The lowered staysail, seen from the port side, is lying on the foredeck of a small vessel, probably a kaag. Part of the stock of an anchor is also showing.
This is an offset, not rubbed on the back, in heavy black pencil by the Elder. The bold signature on the back, ‘W.V.VJ’, by the Younger, was added at a much later date than the original drawing.
