A State barge
An unsigned pencil drawing by the Younger, of a starboard broadside view of a State barge being pulled by four oars double-banked.
Inscribed in brown ink on a piece of paper, which was formerly attached to the drawing, is ‘1660 den 23 meij’. The date on the piece of paper, formally attached to the drawing, is in the same form as in PAH1725.
The presence of a State barge on the Dutch coast is a little surprising, but apparently Sandwich’s barge, in which the King was taken on board the ‘Naseby’, had a ‘house on it’.
