De Ruyter's arrival in the Wester Ems 27 July/ 6 Aug 1665 (or return from the West Indies 27 July 1665)

On the right is a broadside view of De Ruyer’s flagship the ‘Spiegel’ with a flag and pendant at the main, lying at anchor with a States yacht ahead; there is also a yacht alongside. A number of yachts and boats are sailing around her, with a kaag on the left, a bezan yacht in the centre and a States yacht on the right.

This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Elder, with a false signature ‘W V V’ in brown ink. In the Ingram Collection (190), there is a drawing made about the same time with a similar false signature.
