The Dutch fleet in light airs, August 1665? (or De Ruyter. Fleet becalmed)

This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder of the fleet in very light airs. In the centre is a stern view of a ship (numbered 35) with a flag at the main and a lion on the tafferal. To the left is another ship, and on the extreme left is a ship (numbered 36) with a flag at the fore and a lion on the tafferel. In the right background is a ship (numbered 38), with another in the centre distance (numbered 37).

Robinson has determined that from this work’s subject and watermark it probably belongs to the Bergen series.
