A kaag with a Dutch fleet at anchor

Portrait of a kaag with a Dutch fleet at anchor. A weather quarter view of a kaag close-hauled on the starboard tack with a crowded barge alongside her to leeward. On the left is a pink with her sail down, pulling towards the kaag. In the background are a large number of Dutch ships, including four flagships at anchor.

The drawing has been doubtfully attributed to the Elder by Robinson. The delicate pencil work added to the drawing may be by the Younger. According to Robinson, the inscription ‘uijt’ indicates that the presence of the vessel on the left is spoiling the composition is almost certainly by the Younger.
