Dutch flagship with a galjoot lying-by

In the centre is a galjoot, with its mainsail brailed up, close under the lee of a large ship with flags at the mizzen and mizzen peak, close-hauled on the starboard tack. Another ship with flag flying and pendant at the main is coming under the galjoot’s stern.

This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder with a correction in brown ink. It is approximately dated by watermarks. In Robinson’s view the drawing is of poor quality in crude pencil and a little wash. He believes it may have been drawn over by a later hand, and that it does not seem possible that it is wholly the work of the Elder.
