Portrait of the 'Damiaten'
Portrait of the ‘Damiaten’s’ stern, from slightly on the port quarter. On the tafferel is a ship under sail between two towers, and on the rail above is Jupiter astride an eagle. There are two shields on the counter. On the port side is a lion rampant and on the starboard side are crossed anchors, for the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
This is a drawing by the Younger, signed in brown ink ‘W.V.V J’. It has been rapidly but accurately drawn in pencil without any signs of it being based on an offset. It has been approximately dated by the watermark and signature.
