Portrait of the 'Herder'?
The ‘Herder’ viewed from the port quarter and raised high out of the water. On the tafferel is a full-length figure of a shepherd with a sheep at his feet and trees in the background.
Robinson states that the form of the signature suggests a date later than 1665 and it is possible that this ship is the ‘Groote Herder’. (See PAJ2522, and PAF6495)
This is a delicate pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, signed in brown ink, ‘W.V.VJ’. It has been approximately dated by the style.
