A Dutch harbour (with a weyschuit, yacht and Scholschuit)
In the centre middle distance is a broadside view of a weyschuit and a pink both getting their masts up with a States yacht under sail on the extreme left. In the right foreground is a man in a skiff alongside a hard. In the background are shipping at the wharves of the harbour.
This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, signed ‘W.V.VJ’. It is compositional in character and according to Robinson, more broadly drawn than is usual for the Younger at this period, but the way the clouds are put in mark it as his work. It has been very approximately dated by the subject and signature.
