A Dutch ship at anchor
A stern view of a ship at anchor with her main yard acockbill and the mizzen topsail laid aback. In the right distance is a lee bow view of a ship close-hauled on the port tack. In the left distance is a port broadside view of a ship.
This is a grey wash drawing, by the Younger, with pen and brown ink, signed in grey ink, ‘W.V.VJ’. It is, according to Robinson, compositional in character and of very doubtful date, but is judged by the subject and signature to belong to the period. The work is rubbed on the back, but does not appear to be an offset. The pen-work is crude and may be by a later hand. The margins have been lined with the same ink.
