Study of an anchor of a Dutch ship

On the left is a weak offset worked up with pencil. It depicts a catted anchor, showing part of the starboard luff of the ship and only the line of the cutwater. There is a buoy-rope made fast with a hitch round the crown of the anchor.

On the right is an offset with slight pencil additions taken from the drawing on the left. It was created by folding the paper and rubbing on the back.

This is an unsigned offset by the Younger, with both offsets rubbed on the back. It has been approximately dated by the subject of the original drawing, but the offset may have been taken off circa 1675, since a number of drawings are found on the same type of paper dating to this time.

It has some relation to a drawing of a Dutch ship in the Ingram Collection (118).
