An English yacht towed in a calm
The same incident as in PAF6613. A view from abaft the port beam of a galjoot-rigged yacht (? The ‘Merlin’) with mainsail and topsail set but with headsails lowered. She is being towed by a boat. Alongside her is a small hoy under mainsail, square-sail and topsail. In the right background is a ship is firing a salute.
This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder. According to Robinson it may, by its subject and style, have been drawn on the occasion of the King’s visit to the ‘Tiger’.
