A Dutch ship drying sails

A free sketch showing on the left a lee bow view of a ship at anchor with her main topsail atrip and her fore topsail loosed on the cap. On the right is a stern view of a small bezan yacht at anchor.

Inscribed with an ‘L’ (light) in the sky.

This is a black chalk drawing by the Younger, signed ‘W.V.VJ’. According to Robinson it is very compositional in character. It has been very freely sketched with skies lightly hatched. It has been approximately dated by the style.
