An English two-decker in a strong breeze
An English two-decker in a strong breeze. A starboard quarter view of the hull only of a ship in a sea heeling to port.
A slight but spirited drawing having some relation to the painting at NMM of a squadron of ships in a sea close-hauled on the starboard tack. The style of the drawing with the touches of white appears to be later than that of the painting and it may be a copy by Van de Velde himself or perhaps even a copy by a later hand such as Samuel Scott.
