English ships becalmed

Shore scene with tochtschilts. A crowded scene in an estuary with a port broadside view of a tochtschuit to the right hauled up stern first on the beach near a groyne; a horse and cart close to it. A weyschuit unrigged is lying on the beach in the right foreground. To the left are men pushing off another tochtschuit bow first. Both tochtschiuts are spirt-rigged with a staysail and with a small square-sail set on mast in the eyes of the boat like a two-master pink. In the background is a flagship lying at anchor near the shore.

Broadly drawn in thick pencil and light Indian ink wash with details of ships and rigging rapidly but accurately put in with sharp pencil.
