De Ruyter's Voyage to Bergen, autumn 1665. The Dutch fleet on its way to the Scottish coast, August 1665

Several ships and galjoots before the wind under a press of sail. On the right, viewed from abaft the port beam, there is a large ship with flag and pendant at the main, presumably De Ruyter in the ‘Delfland.’ Another ship is close on her starboard bow. In the right foreground there is a galjoot with her mainsail brailed but square-sail and topsail set; and to the left four other galjoots, the nearer one with square-sail set on the bowsprit end.

This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the Elder.
