De Ruyter's Voyage to Bergen, autumn 1665. A galjoot and a flute at anchor off a rocky coast

In the centre, a port bow view of a galjoot at anchor, and to the left a small flute, starboard bow view. There are rocks in the foreground with a cliff on the right and a lower coast running round to the left. High land is shown in the distance.

This drawing was made probably on the Norwegian coast during De Ruyter’s voyage to Bergen, August 1665.

This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Elder, with a false signature on the back ‘W.V.V.J.’
