Shipping in light airs off Wieringen

In the right middle-distance, the port broadside view of a ship at anchor with a galjoot alongside. Ahead of her, a lee bow view of a smalschip close-hauled on the starboard tack. On the left is a kaag in the wind. The coastline, with the town of Wieringen, is in the distance.
Inscribed in brown ink ‘ No 1 K-. no 11 2 anden andree’ (? No.1. Turn over No. 2 on the otgher side).It is also inscribe in an old brown ink, but not by either Van de Velde ‘ Wieringen’.

This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, signed in brown ink ‘W.V.VJ.’ It is inscribed on the back ‘…1665 Wieringe so als wij daer voor leggen te anker’ (1665, Wieringen as it appears while lying at anchor off it).
