Dutch shipping in a harbour becalmed, 22 May - 1 June 1666
The drawing suggests the effect of soft sunlight on a calm day. On the right there is the bow view of a ship with fore course and topsails loosed and on the left a starboard quarter view of a boeier yacht under sail with oars out forward, a galjoot just beyond her. There is part of a staging in the left foreground and a coastline in the right distance.
The drawing is inscribed in brown ink in the upper left '1666 dijnsdagh den eerte Juni', and on the reverse in graphite '1666'. It is signed upper right with what is probably part of the signature 'W.V. V.'.
