A galjoot with the English fleet in the distance
Van de Velde may have drawn this the day after the battle of Solebay when the Dutch and English fleets came close to each other but did not renew the action. In the foreground there is a broadside view of a galjoot with a fleet in the background, indicated lower right as 'engelse vloot' by the Elder in ?graphite and repeated in pen and ink by the Younger just below. In the upper part of the drawing there is another distant view probably of the English fleet. It is possible that the galjoot may represent the one in which van de Velde was present at the battle of Solebay. The drawing is unsigned.
