English ships getting under way

A rapid sketch showing to the left a near starboard bow view of a ship under fore course, mizzen and fore and main topsails with the wind on the starboard quarter. Further away and astern of her, a ship in the wind. In the right middle-distance, a starboard broadside view of a ship before the wind with her main and mizzen topsails loosed but shaking, her fore topsail loosed on the cap and her mizzen set.

This is a pencil drawing by the Younger, signed ‘W.V.VJ’. It is inscribed with an ‘L’ in the fore topsail of the ship on the right to indicate that the part shaded would be light.
