Three ships before the wind
In the centre, a port quarter view of a ship before a light breeze under fore course, topsails and topgallants; towing a boat with two men in it. In the left background, a ship with her main course set also, but her fore topgallant still on the cap; and on the right, another ship with only fore course and topsails set. Land can be seen in the right distance.
This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, signed with part of the signature ‘W.V.VJ’. The wash has been added by a later hand to give the ship in the centre an 18th century look.
