Plaited rope mat made by Captain William Lamey (1889-1969). It is made from recycled rope worked in 8-strand square sennit round the outside and 5-strand sennit in the centre, in the middle is a flattened 3-lead, 5-bight Turk's head. The mat is framed and glazed.

Captain Lamey left school aged 12 and went to sea in local ketches with his father Charles Lamey. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve and was mobilised during World War One. He afterwards became master of the ketch 'Hobah' of Falmouth until 1940, when he served with the Naval River Patrol at Appledore until 1946.
