Greenwich Hospital
A view east from the south face of the King Charles Court towards the Painted Hall colonnade and steps, and the dome of the Queen Mary Court, with Pensioners. The corner of the Queen Anne Court is on the left. The north face of the buildings is in shadow but the sun highlights the brick and stone facade of what is now the Trafalgar Quarters on Park Row, built as the Hospital's financial offices in 1813-15. The drawing was previously firmly ascribed to David Cox, senior, not least because of its similarities to a less finished watercolour in the collection (PAH3250). The awkwardness of the foreground figures in particular calls this into question, but it might still be the case.
