Greenwich from the Isle of Dogs
A distant view across the full length of the empty Isle of Dogs, from the west, with carters on the foreground, cows grazing and the sails of ships visible above the fields. The height of the Park, with the Observatory, above Greenwich Hospital and town has been exaggerated for effect and the contour is echoed by a plume of smoke (not obviously from a steam vessel) rising from the left. A former suggestion that this rather faded drawing may be someone in the cirdle of David Cox senior has now been dismissed. However, the composition suggests it may relate to an engraving, yet to be identified
