Greenwich Hospital from East Greenwich, May 1871
A drawing looking west towards the Royal Naval College from the East Greenwich waterfront, subsequently perhaps used with another drawing by Ballin, PAF7684, as the basis of a print (PAD2259). It is annotated in French, lower right, with + under the tower of St Alfege: 'Le clocher lointain un peu moins au large' ('the distant steeple a little less to the right' or possibly 'un peu moins large' - 'a little less broad'). The heavy use of white heightening gives the effect of snow, which seems unlikely given the ascribed date.
