Night chase of the brigantine slaver Windward by HM steam-sloop Alecto

In this engraving, based on a sketch by one of the officers on board the HMS 'Alecto' and originally published in the 1 May 1858 edition of 'The Illustrated London News', the steam-sloop 'Alecto' is giving chase to the brigantine slaver 'Windward' by moonlight. The ships are in the waters off of the west coast of Africa. The 'Windward' is in the foreground, and many figures can be made out on her upper deck. All of her sails are set as she tries to escape from the 'Alecto', seen in the distance firing a gun.
