Hove

A drypoint etching of the beach at Hove. Leisure crafts, bathing machines, and summer visitors are dotted across the image. Bone leaves the foreground and the sky without detail, emphasizing the activity on the beach. Hove, today in conurbation with Brighton, was a popular seaside destination. Signed by artist and in plate.

Born in Glasgow, Muirhead Bone (1876-1953) was a prominent London based printmaker and an official war artist in both the First and Second World Wars. Bone began practicing printmaking in the 1890s and moved to London in 1901.
