HMS 'Bellerophon' (1824) off the coast of Syria, 2 December 1840
Inscribed: "H.M.S. BELLEROPHON Off the Coast of Syria in the Gale of 2nd Decemr 1840". At the end of November 1840, after the Syrian operations had been concluded, a severe gale occurred in the area, during which, on 2 December, one of the ships of the Royal Navy that had taken part (the 'Zebra', 16 guns) was wrecked off Mount Carmel.
